Some people leave before they go.

Elian has built his life around absence so carefully that he stopped noticing the shape of it - the cold room, the counted coins, the mornings that continue without him. In the fog of Baguio City, he is invisible by choice. Unremarkable. Enough.

Then Mara arrives. Not to save him. Not even trying to.

And that's the problem.

Because she shows him - without meaning to, without asking - exactly what he's been missing. And Elian makes the mistake that lonely people always make: he reaches for the feeling instead of understanding where it came from.

The Shape of What Remains is a story about what we project onto the people we love, what we lose when we hold too tight, and what survives when everything else doesn't.
