Dr Ryland Grace is a middle school science teacher. A smart man who enjoys sharing knowledge to the next generation of potential scientists. After finding his PhD paper, he gets called to help with a top secret government project to unearth the secrets of the Petrova line in order to attempt to save the Sun from dimming.

Y/n L/n is an astrological artist. Renowned throughout the astrological communities for her accomplishments in science and the arts, with paintings being on display in science museums across America. Roped into Project Hail Mary to draw the scientists' findings throughout the project, she finds joy in creating art of something that'll save the world.

When the original plan for the Hail Mary mission goes terribly wrong, the leader of the operation, Eva Stratt, has no choice but to send the next best people up into space on this one way trip to save the Earth. Of course they need a scientist up on the space craft, someone to analyse and make understanding of the crisis at hand. She also wants more than video logs and photographs of what goes on on the Hail Mary, sketch logs and detailed observations are highly valued when dealing with new scientific discoveries and materials.

Given no choice, Dr Ryland Grace and Y/n L/n are forced upon the spacecraft with one mission: Save the Sun and save humanity.
