Hong had promised himself forever when he said "I do" two months ago. But forever ended on a rainy Tuesday, when his wife walked out without a single word of explanation-just the hollow echo of a slammed door and a ring left cold on the bedside table. Drenched and numb, Hong wandered the empty streets, rain masking the tears he refused to admit were falling. That's when he saw him: a tall man with an effortlessly handsome face and a pretty smile that didn't belong in such a gray, broken scene. His name was Nut. Nut didn't ask why Hong was drowning in the downpour. He simply offered his umbrella, then his coat, then his quiet company at a rundown 24-hour diner. They talked about nothing and everything-except the wife who had left. Weeks later, Hong gathered what was left of his courage to visit his elderly grandparents. They had always worried about him, always wished for someone to love him. When Hong walked in, still fragile, still healing, his grandmother's eyes lit up at the sight of Nut beside him. "Oh, Hong finally brought his boyfriend! And such a handsome one-why did you keep him so busy and hidden from us?" Before Hong could correct her, Nut squeezed his hand gently. Their eyes met. And Nut smiled-that same warm, pretty smile from the rainy night. "Yes, ma'am," Nut said softly. "I'm sorry I couldn't visit sooner. I'm just... busy taking care of him." Later, in the kitchen, Hong whispered, "Why did you lie?" Nut looked at him-really looked. "Because your grandparents deserve to see you happy. Even if it's pretend. And honestly? You deserve to feel what that's like, even for a day." So Hong let himself pretend. Let himself lean into the warmth of a hand that wasn't his to hold, into the comfort of a man who wasn't his husband. But as the days turned into weeks of this beautiful, fragile lie, Hong began to wonder: What if the best husband I never had is the stranger who chose to stay?

After a car accident leaves Hong with amnesia, he has to relearn his life-and the people in it. But while his memories are gone, his feelings aren't, and this time he doesn't hide them. As the past slowly returns, so do the parts of himself he isn't sure he wants back-especially the version of him that pushed Nut away. Now caught between who he was and who he's becoming, Hong has to decide if love is something he can choose... or something he'll ruin all over again.
