Arthur Smith, a professor running from his past, takes a job as a firewatcher in the remote vastness of Maine's FlareRidge Forest. His new world is one of stunning vistas, profound silence, and a lonely wooden tower. His only human contact is his witty, enigmatic colleague, Samantha, over the crackling radio.
