Bas knew how to stand under stage lights without giving too much away. Maxky knew how to smile for cameras without truly being seen. When Maxky was pushed into a singing project that didn't smell of choice but of a plan, he ended up - of all people - with Bas: an artist who set boundaries instead of using them.

In the studio, something took shape that neither of them had expected: not sudden closeness, but a steady rhythm. Pauses that were allowed. Looks that didn't demand anything. A space where "stop" wasn't a problem, but a right. Bas held that space until Maxky slowly began to understand that a voice doesn't only sound - it can carry you, too, if you don't twist it out of shape. And the more Maxky was allowed to be himself in the studio, the clearer it became how expensive that was out in the world.

Because what grows quietly rarely goes unnoticed. Outside, people read stories into moments - stories that sold better than the truth. And while Maxky was pulled back and back again, Bas learned a different kind of fear: the fear of not being allowed to lose someone - without trying to hold on too tightly.

Then Maxky disappeared.
And Bas was left with the feeling that sometimes you only understand what someone means to you when they're no longer there.
