Being an overachiever has always benefited Lyra Pyden. Valedictorian was far too easy to accomplish. Gaining a Cheer scholarship was a breeze. Maintaining a 4.8 GPA while being Captain? A cakewalk. So why the hell is she failing English? Not Quantum Physics or Organic Chemistry? No. Fucking English III.

It can't be her fault. No way in hell. In Lyra's eyes the blame falls on her exacting Professor. Prof. Bennett Dodge. Who the only thing pleasing about him was the way his button downs hug his biceps and his adams apple bobs when he shouts. And shout he does. Frequently.

Despite being fairly young for a professor, the years of teaching and failures have worn down his once upbeat and supportive attitude. He's not a complete ass but a hard-ass? Absolutely. He doesn't accept anything less than pouring one's soul and entire weekend into an essay.

When Lyra can't take the feeling of failure anymore and is at risk of loosing her cheer scholarship, she finally swallows her pride. She's ready to do just about anything to keep her grade up.
