At Topview School, a list appears every year with ten names and no explanation, and over time, students learn not to question it. Kalila follows the same pattern. Until her best friend, Laela, is on it.

The school offers a simple explanation, something harmless and easy to accept, and eventually everything returns to normal.

Then Laela disappears.

Days pass, and life continues as though nothing is missing. No one talks about Laela. No one asks where she went.

Not even Kalila.

A week passes, and suddenly, Kalila remembers her. She realizes that finding Laela may be the only way to prove she ever existed at all.
