For as long as he can remember, Nathan Ahn has always been by Shane Hollander's side, both as his childhood best friend and, more importantly, as Shane's rival in hockey. Forced to play hockey to satisfy his father's greed for superiority over others and constantly compared to Shane Hollander, Nathan had his entire youth modeled around two things: playing hockey and being better than Shane Hollander, nothing else. Naturally, Nathan secretly developed envy and resentment toward Shane. He hated his friend for making him feel so worthless every time Shane did better so effortlessly. He tried so much, so hard, to be happy for his friend, but all he felt was an irrational anger towards him, as if every move Shane made had struck a sensitive cord in him.

So, when in 2009, during the MLH draft, Nathan was drafted third overall by the Tampa Bay Bolts, thankfully not on the same team as Shane Hollander and away from Canada, he took it as an opportunity to leave his previous life behind. After winning the International Prospect Cup as a member of Team Canada, Nathan cut off all contact with Shane, despite having promised him they would always keep in touch and stay friends. He changed his phone number and rarely attended any MLH-related events, except for practice and games.

Years later, as Nathan finally decides to attend an MLH award night, he inevitably runs into Shane Hollander again, now both older and further along in their hockey careers. Yet their hearts still carry the memory of their youth spent together in Canada and the bittersweet way their friendship came to a halt when it could have bloomed into something more.
