The Bloop 3

This short story follows a determined explorer named Joshua Tanliawn, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, who in the year 2030 journeys to the remote Monastery of Mount Lao in Shandong Province, China, seeking the ultimate truth behind the terrifying phenomenon known as "The Bloop." Driven by the need to uncover the identity of the entity behind the sound-something that science and previous archives had failed to explain-he seeks out an ancient monk said to hold knowledge of languages older than humanity itself. After days of waiting, Joshua is granted audience, and the wise but dying elder reveals that the creature is no mere beast of the sea, but the Master of the Abyss itself; a god-like being so vast that its breathing creates the tremors felt across the oceans, and whose dreams shape the very depths of the world. Despite warnings that speaking the true name invites danger and binds the speaker to the entity, Joshua demands to know it. With immense effort and at the cost of his own life, the monk utters the word-a guttural, grinding sound like shifting tectonic plates-and writes the forbidden sigils, revealing that the Devourer of Worlds is called Yagd'ith. In that instant, the reality around them shifts, the lights die, and the connection is made; Joshua flees down the mountain knowing that by learning and writing down the name, they have called out into the darkness, and the darkness has heard. The slumber is ending, the boundary between land and sea has blurred, and Yagd'ith now knows that it is known, signaling the inevitable rise of the Lord of the Deep.
