Under Your Microscope

Twenty-year old Bakugo Katsuki was born quirkless.

It wasn't for lack of expectation. Everyone around him peers, teachers and adults alike had been so sure he would manifest something powerful. The combination of his parents' quirks should've produced something impressive. Everyone said so.

Everyone was wrong.

The diagnosis hit harder than Katsuki ever admitted. Not because he'd been counting on a quirk, but because he hadn't realized how much he'd been counting on it until it never appeared.

His parents didn't handle it with speeches or therapy. They handled it the way they knew how-by keeping him busy. They threw him into the fashion industry, their world, where quirks didn't matter as much as presence and confidence and a face that could sell anything. It worked. Sort of. He stopped moping. Started modeling. Got good at it. Built a name for himself that had nothing to do with powers or heroism.

Now he was at U.A., of all places, modeling for his parents' newest hero merch streetwear line. Cameras flashing. Hero students showing off in the background. The whole thing felt like a joke he wasn't in on.

Then, he met Midoriya Izuku this tall, green-eyed eighteen year old support student.

And suddenly, being at U.A. didn't feel like a joke anymore.

It felt like the start of something he couldn't name yet.
