Marianne Hayes is a witch.

Or at least that's what they all say.

Her parents having died when she was young, Marianne Hayes is taken under the care of her great aunt Louise, who makes her the apprentice at the local apothecary, always making her work and never letting her see the world beyond. Lately, medicine has been in high demand, for there's a mysterious illness spreading, and it's connected to the rise of magic. Young women accused of being witches are executed left and right. Marianne's dull routine threatens to shatter, and it's exactly what happens.

When a charming priest named Tobias walks into the apothecary looking for the cure, an incident happens, and people start accusing Marianne of being a witch. But then Tobias saves her life, and it seems to be the solution to everything. Getting to explore the world beyond, elevating her standing in society, finding the man of her dreams, but most importantly, figuring out the mystery of her parents' death.

There's just one thing, though.

It comes at a terrible price.
