Legacy: Mendacity

Ours was once a town of wealth and promise.

Then its lord took everything for himself.

The taxes grew heavier, the mines fell silent, and the people grew poorer while their ruler grew richer.

Then came a mercenary.

A man said to possess the strength of fifteen men, who feared neither soldier nor nobleman, and, some whispered, not even God. He dared tax the local church, and when questioned, he simply refused to bow.

He was always seen beneath a hood, his face hidden from the world. Only his predatory eyes could be seen, glowing in the darkness.

But he did not come to destroy us.

He came to rebuild our home.

A bank opened. A tailor returned. The brothel filled its doors. And deep beneath the earth, the abandoned silver mines began to roar once more.

Trade returned.

Wealth returned.

And the town began to live again.

They called him many things afterward.

Mercenary. Monster. Savior.

But history remembers him simply as the Silent Requiem.
