Mariah Russell is what you'd call your typical "troubled" teen, her home life is horrible as she lives with her mom who tries to help her and her dad the person at times she fears as his drunken rage takes over, Mariah realizes that the only person she needs is herself, she loves trouble she often has a hard time controlling her anger and emotions many look down to her. As she and her parents relocate to a small simple town Mariah is forced to leave her life she built behind.

Arielle Rosenback, that last name holds status in this small town of lampton. Shes looked at as the golden girl the future of her dad's successful law firm and business's, Radiant, soft, and seemingly perfect, Arielle is everything Mariah's world isn't. When their paths cross, Arielle doesn't recoil from Mariah's jagged edges,she leans into them. For the first time, Mariah's anxiety goes quiet. She allows herself to believe in the impossible: that she could be healed by someone else's light.

While Mariah is falling in love, Arielle is looking for an exit, a way back to the comfortable, high-status life represented by Spencer. He's arrogant, entitled, and everything Mariah loathes, yet he is the "perfect" future Arielle refuses to let go of
