A collection of shorts from a D&D group I recently became a part of. I play as Aelthas, so many of the stories will be from his point of view.

Every story is intended to explain something for other members of the group, whether it's how my sword got its name, or why Relgrim is gone and Respen dead.

Suren--How Aelthas received his sword, Suren.
The Undead Suren, Vampire Priestess of Melvaunt--Some backstory on Suren.
Tymora's Rainbow--How Aelthas acquired his six-sided die (trinket).
At The Brewtal Cask--How our story began.
The Road to Phandalin--Aelthas and Respen on the road.
Two Men and a Dwarf Walk Into a Tavern--The entrance of Relgrim.
The Death of Respen--The exit of Relgrim from the group, and the death of Respen.
Priva and the Phoenix--Why Aelthas abandoned his drunken grieving process.

Set in the world of Middle-earth, during the time of The Rings of Power, Melisane, the youngest sister of Finrod and Galadriel, unlike her sister's mind-reading abilities, possesses the divine gift of prophetic dreams, able to glimpse the future, past, and unseen realms. As a child, she was captivated by tales of dragons-creatures of wind, sky, and fire-and often dreamed of them, their power and grace haunting her thoughts. In the aftermath of the Elves' flight to Middle-earth, the loss of her brother Finrod, and Galadriel's departure to hunt Sauron, Melisane is left battling grief and feelings of abandonment. Despite her skill as a deadly commander and warrior, she struggles to find purpose, withdrawing from those who care for her as her dreams grow stronger. One fateful day, she stumbles upon a newly hatched, abandoned dragon-just as her dreams had foretold. Believing this moment signals a change in her destiny, Melisane takes the creature under her care. Concerned by her reclusive nature, Elrond, the Half-elven, and an old family friend, seeks her out and is shocked to find her raising the dragon. Agreeing to help her, he assumes she will eventually let it go, but their shared bond over the creature slowly rekindles their long-lost friendship-and something deeper. As shadows loom once again over Middle-earth, Melisane and Elrond must navigate the growing darkness, all while facing the uncertain futures that their hearts and dreams reveal. Will their newfound connection withstand the threats closing in, or will the starlight of their bond be consumed by the shadows? _ "You sleep coiled; tightly wound. Hands made fists beneath the pillows, clenched above cotton sheets. You are at war, even in your dreams, cenedril af fae nín. Let me help you."

'They pulled the chair across from me out and sat in it. The tavern carried on when the figure made themselves comfortable. My grip tightened on the hilt of the dagger. They pulled the hood of their cloak off and unclasped it. Their movements were relaxed and unhurried. I ran my eyes over him. He had strange black, swirling tattoos on his neck and long, pointed ears. His clothes were plain. I crossed my arms and sat back in my seat, keeping my eyes on his piercing midnight blue ones. He cocked an eyebrow. "Well?" I narrowed my eyes. "Well, what?" "What's your business here?" "I should be asking you that, considering you silenced a room by being in it." "Fair enough." He paused as the bartender brought another tankard over. "I'm looking for a travel companion." His voice was as deep as the shadows surrounding us. "You're an elf... Don't they prefer to travel on their own?" "Fae," he corrected as he pulled a pipe out of thin air. A black wisp of smoke surrounded his hand as he did so. "But yes, we do. I, however, have had enough of my thoughts being my only company." I nodded. "So?" He raised his eyebrows. I shook my head sadly. "This is something I need to do. Alone." "Alright." He looked a bit disappointed, which was odd, considering we had just met. ' What happens when you're going to kill the Unnamed One and meet a mysterious fae on your journey? Do you trust him, or leave him? And what do you do when you find out what he's been hiding? Iowyn Aedithas is on a quest to save her guild. A quest that could potentially be lethal for her. She's an awfully brave (some would say naive) human to be doing this. Demons have been attacking her guild, and she's had enough. She meets Evaris, the mysterious fae, on her journey and he becomes her travel companion. When they reach their destination, he reveals information that's previously been held close.

Eliora May, a lifetime citizen of Maplemaw, is something many women are not. Literate. An activist. But these become hard to complete as all is stripped away from her with the coming of unexpected news. Marriage and war between the faeires and elves of Ilkaphene. A land of magic, where flowers and fungi grow as tall as their castles. Where forest creatures live in harmony. A land of peace. A land where a fairy married an elf. A fairy princess marrying an elf princess at that. Eliora begins to hear rumors of the war. How it was destroying an ethereal land. And, worst of all, how women were being silenced to prevent more "corruption". As the war and its standards begin to seep into Elvangmort, changing Eliora's home into one of constrictions, hushed whispers, and worst of all, a hatred toward women, she knows that she must do something to save her freedom and the freedoms of those around her. *** This is my submission for ONC 2025! **TRIGGER WARNING: VIOLENCE, BLOOD, LANGUAGE, ADULT CONTENT**** Blue flames rise high into the air. The snow on the ground around the fire is now water, exposing the stone below. Evon has long since stopped screaming. Instead, his body is mostly chard. The deed is complete. Justice is served. The people have their peace of mind back. What little they can at least. Evon's death can never satisfy the loss they suffered. It is enough though, for now. I turn to the Tarren family. Matias is comforting his wife, Willa. By their side, their six children stand together. Matthew is holding Mila's shoulders from behind. The rest of her brothers stare blankly ahead. Mila's tears drip down her face onto the snow. I see violence stirring inside her. Evon may be dead, but what he did will never leave this family. I meet eyes with Matias and nod. "It is done," I tell them, "Let your vengeance be satisfied." With that, I turn and jump off the landing platform. I shift mid-air and fly around the castle. Now, I have an intruder to deal with.
