Verena knew things about people. She was just good at reading them- paying attention to them. She knew them better than they knew themselves. Sometimes it seemed like no one would ever know her they way she knew everyone around her. Coming to this misty, forest thick town was supposed to be something of a new start for her. It felt like it when she looked around the small plaza that was home to her new studio. She saw many layered, guarded people with beautiful faces and thought that maybe one day she could be something other than unseen for once. Especially as she passed a tall pale man who curtly nodded his acknowledgment to her and then quickly looked away. It was just a feeling, but it seemed like a good omen in a strange way, that he might've actually seen her for that split second. .-*-. He caught a scent on the breeze as he passed through the archway of the tiny plaza- home to a few restaurants, a smoke shop, and an older shut down shop. That shop was being unlocked by the source of the scent. 𝙒𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩...𝙬𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙨? 𝘼 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙤𝙥 𝙤𝙛 𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖 𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢? 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜...𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙘? A girl with long curling black hair down to her waist looked over her shoulder at Vander and gave a polite half smile before having to push the door open and go inside. 𝙃𝙚𝙧 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨 Vander sped up his gait and rounded the corner of the plaza- almost flinging himself into an ally way to slump against a wall. He was hyperventilating and gripping his sides. 𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣- 𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣... He would not pick up those...habits again. 𝙐𝙣𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨- He could be unseen.

[ COMPLETED AND ON THE WATTYS 2017 SHORTLIST - Excerpt Only] In an era where the drums of war echo over the Northern plains, when the arrival of the next Copper Moon brings about whispers of a shadowy threat, Nell Yngram is only concerned with struggling to make ends meet. Earning a living as a Lampgirl, and having serviced the Moreighs for the last couple of years, she yet dreams of being assigned to the family's ancestral home at Ashenlight. Despite talk of dark secrets plaguing the Samarna Palace, Nell only seeks to earn a good enough sum with which to send back to her family and allow her to return to them. At present, however, such a wish seems impossible. Yet when the former Baron passes away under unforseen circumstances, and his exiled son returns with a foreign bride-to-be, it seems that things certainly are about to change... A story about intertwining lives and internal struggles, dark magic in a rapidly-changing society, and the acceptance of Fate. Cover by: @elphadora
