The Lake

West Lake, South Lake, and Cardinal Lake; the three main communities that surround a lake just outside of Davidson, North Carolina. The communities each have a family that acts as the leader. The family enforces the rules which those who live in each community must follow.
1) females must keep their weight down
2) no alcohol unless the elders allow for it
3) no sex outside of marriage
4) swear only when in the presence of those of equal or less status
5) punishment can only be given by the head family
These rules can be slightly skewed when it came to the family that leads each community.

For Jordan Mitchell, all she wanted to do was escape the grip the communities had over her since birth. Her sister marrying into the head family of the community they lived under only further added t the pain of living within the confines that was the lake. Lying to her parents and the head of the community, Jordan leaves to college. They believe she is practicing medicine to become the new doctor for the lake, but she actually was studying art and putting together a plan so that she never has to return to the community which she had come to hate.

Meeting Wesley, a guy on the swim team, seems to be way too much for Jordan to handle. But as she grows farther from the communities, she begins to grow closer to Wesley and the way he seems to be able to bring forth who Jordan really is beneath the fear that drags her back to the communities. A fear of water can't seem to keep her away from Wesley.
