Consequences of a lie.

"I 'm sorry"
"Well, you're sorry because you knew it'd be seen as a betrayal. You're compromising your loyalty to me and to this prison by associating with him."
"I didn't want to hurt your feelings."
"That is so ... considerate of you. There will be no further need to see Mr. Fletcher. He's no longer a colleague and given what he put us both through we hardly call him a friend. Though I must ask Vera, just in light of this deliberate deception, just where does your loyalty lie..."
"With you Governor..."
"I'm so sorry I didn't hear that."
"With you Governor... Always with you."
There was a long pause where Joan seemed to evaluate something deep: "Can you prove it?"
"I- w-what?"
"Do you think you can prove it, Vera? Your loyalty to me..."
"I- Yes Governor, I can prove it."
Another pause. Longer than the first one.
"Do you think you can prove it now?"
"Yes, Governor"
"You can start by removing your jacket, Vera."
"My jacket, Governor?"
"Yes, Vera. And fold it. Neatly."
Vera was confused by her boss's request, but she sensed refusing wasn't an option and she desired to prove she was worthy of Joan's trust and expectations. So, she removed and folded her jacket.
"Place it over that chair."
Vera obeyed.
