Eyes Like a Curse

Abel Grimes has always been used to being looked at.

Just not like this.

Two different eyes. One emerald green. One pale blue.
People notice. They always do.

But that's not the strangest part of him, It starts with the nightmares.

The same one, over and over again, darkness that feels alive, a house that won't stay still, a voice he can't quite place but knows by heart. He wakes up before the end every time... heart racing, hands shaking, like something is still chasing him out of sleep.

Then comes the silence afterward, the kind that makes a normal morning feel wrong.

In a quiet town in the US, Abel tries to live a normal life. School. Bus stops. Small talk he doesn't really belong in. A mother who pretends not to worry. A father who isn't there anymore, but also isn't gone.

And then there's him.

Quiet. Watchful. Funny in a way people don't expect. The kind of kid who doesn't start trouble... but never seems surprised when it finds him anyway.

Because something about Abel Grimes doesn't sit right in the world around him.

And deep down, even he knows it.
