Joey Lynch accepted his fate a long time ago. He saw no way out of the house he was born in, and decided to make his bed there. So he lives without a care in the world. He gets in fights at school, starts doing drugs, and works until he sweats blood with only his mother and siblings on his mind.
Because of this, when Joey's twin sister, Roísín, introduces him to her close friend, Maeve Lordan, he is immediately alarmed. She sets his heart aflame in a way he didn't know possible and it scares him, so he stays cold and emotionless. What he didn't expect from this, however, was that she'd absolutely despise him because of this and, like with anything else in his life, he settles for it, not pushing for anything different.
However, Maeve finds herself wishing she had gotten to know him before deciding to hate him forever. She sees him in the halls, at parties, and on the streets when he's hanging out with Shane Holland or getting beat up (or doing the beating) by a bunch of bigger guys and she finds herself wanting to try again with him. But she finds it hard to pivot when she's gone so long Loathing Six.
