"Hi! I'm Caden," he said with a smile on his face. He was too perfect to be real.
I smiled back, brushing my hair away from my face. "Hi, Caden. Seraph-I'm Seraph," I replied.
He nodded, ruffling his hand through his hair.
Then everything went quiet.
My mind scrambled for something to say, anything to start a conversation, but nothing came. My thoughts weren't cooperating-he was just too perfect.
We stood under a small shelter, shielded from the rain. I was freezing, trying hard to hide it until my teeth started chattering. It was so embarrassing-my first crush seeing me like this, looking soaked and pathetic. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him open his backpack. He gently pulled out a sweatshirt and held it toward me. I pretended not to notice-until he softly called my name.
That's when the butterflies hit. "How does he know my name?" I asked myself, only to remember I had just introduced myself minutes ago.
I turned to him and reached for the sweatshirt, but as I did, my bag slipped off my shoulder. I cursed my clumsiness for the hundredth time but managed to grab it before it hit the ground. He smiled, like he understood exactly what I was feeling inside.
He helped me adjust my bag, and when his hand brushed against mine, it felt like a cold wave had washed over me. My eyes closed gently, with my cheeks blushing as our eyes locked for some seconds, and he calmly smiled and ruffled his hair again, which I found cute. It was the first time I was actually attracted to someone at first sight.
"I-I'm sorry!" I apologized quickly, afraid of embarrassing myself more in front of my crush.
"It's fine, Seraph," he said gently.
He said my name like we were already friends. To others, my name sounds like noise, but when he said my name, the butterflies in my tummy were something I couldn't control. His calmness made everything feel comfortable. I took the sweatshirt from him with a shy, "Mm, thank you."
He nodded.
