The Gilded Cage of Kurosawa

The story begins when the great Spirit Forests were but mist and shadow... When the ancient clans first rose to protect the balance of the mortal realm. Long ago, five spirits of immense grace were chosen to act as guardians of the world's fundamental pillars: Wisdom, Courage, Joy, Growth, and Peace.
​But absolute power is a poison that acts slowly.
​Over centuries, the guardians grew resentful of their duties. Their grace rotted into greed. One by one, these once-noble envoys turned to Darkness, their hearts hardening into something monstrous. They became the Five Beasts, apostles of chaos who sought to unmake the world that had "imprisoned" them in service.
​Foremost among them was Kaito Masashige, the Beast of Deceit, whose silver tongue and shadow-play brought kingdoms to their knees
​To save humanity, five Great Families-warriors and sorcerers of unmatched bloodlines-rose to strike them down. They could not kill the Beasts, for they were woven into the fabric of reality itself. Instead, the families used their own life forces to seal the monsters away in the furthest corners of the earth:
