Hunt Or Be Hunted

The faerie of the water kingdom Elarpure haven't been trusted for millennia, for a deed rumoured to be unspeakable; and have avoided human contact for even longer. When the High Faery decides enough is enough, he sends his most trusted advisor out into the wild to gather information about humans for a reason unknown. The 'wild' takes form of a village named Caravhall. The task would be easy. At least, it should be.

15 year old Locke Meadow always knew he was different. The people in the village of Caravhall were tanned and muscled from the work to be done there. Locke however, was pale and lean, even with extra work.

In Caravhall, when a child becomes an adult on their 15th, they are eligible of being chosen as an apprentice. Every two months, an old man arrives at dawn; quietly, unseen. There, he will choose an apprentice to take into the dangerous woods of Umbracape for 5 years. Once taken, the apprentices are taught the art of hunting, remaining unseen, and more.

But after the 5 years are done, the apprentices are returned. Alive. Healthy. Just...not the same. Different. A hollow shell of what they once were.

When Locke enters the annual markets, something is off.
