LAZINESS DESTROYS
(Story by KATENDE BRENDAH ) PART 1
Once upon a time, there lived a rich man. He had two sons, and their mother died when she was giving birth to the younger one. One son was called John, the elder, and the other was called Andrew, the younger.
The rich man was the only rich person in the village. When the children were mature enough, the younger one told his elder brother,
"John, why don't we ask our father to give us some of his wealth so that we can go and enjoy life in the city? My friend in the city told me that city life is the best. What do you think?"
John replied,
"I don't think that is a good idea. If you want to go to the city, I advise you to work hard so that you can go there on your own. As for me, I want to study."
Andrew was not happy with what his elder brother told him. He said to himself,
"I have to get a plan."
Andrew went back to his friend and told him whatever they had talked about. His friend said,
"I can give you a plan."
Andrew asked,
"Which plan?"
His friend removed something like a powdery substance from his pocket and said,
"Here is the plan. Put this in your father's tea when your elder brother John has gone to school. Then pretend that you are sick and tell your father you cannot go to school."
Andrew said,
"Explain more about this substance you want me to put in my father's tea."
His friend replied,
"Of course, it is not harmful, but it will make your father sleep. Then you will get some money and we will go to the city."
Andrew did not know that his friend was lying to him. The substance was poison.
