This is a story about a young girl who has had a rough childhood, and a rough early teen years. She runs away from her home where her abusive father lives, to go live with her uncle, and he saves her from all the harm her father caused her. Living with her uncle, she meets a handsome young man, Michael Barcroft, and the two immediately hit it off, by becoming best friends almost instantly. However, when the two graduate from Lincoln Griffin High School, Charlotte's uncle sends her off to her dream school in Chicago, where she's forced to leave Michael behind. In Chicago, Charlotte discovers that she is attracted to women, and she meets the definite love of her life, Asher Peterson, a brunette with blue eyes and the most gorgeous smile.
