Seventeen-year-old Fritz Müller has already lost everything that mattered long before time itself betrays him.

Raised in the forests of Bavaria by the grandfather who taught him how to hunt, track, and survive, Fritz never had much use for the wealthy, distant parents who abandoned him to build their glittering lives in Berlin. When his grandfather dies, Fritz is dragged back to a city he hates and a family he barely knows. Grieving, angry, and utterly alone, he finds himself thrown into the impossible.

One moment, he is sorting through his grandfather's belongings.

The next, he is stranded in the frozen forests of Russia in the dead of winter, 1942.

Alone, unarmed, and hunted by Soviet patrols, Fritz has only the survival skills his grandfather drilled into him to keep from freezing or starving to death. But surviving the wilderness is only the beginning. Rescued by a German infantry squad fighting on the Eastern Front, he is forced into a brutal new reality where every lesson he ever learned is tested in blood.

And somewhere ahead lies a truth far worse than death:
