The Deep End

Seventeen-year-old Elise Tan has spent her entire life in the water.

Five AM practices. Two-a-days. Weekends sacrificed to the pool. As a junior at Corona del Mar High School and a member of Irvine Novaquatics, she's trained her body to endure the impossible - to keep going when her lungs burn and her arms scream and every part of her wants to quit.

She never imagined that training would save her life.

August 2026.

After a breakthrough performance at Junior Nationals, Elise and her best friend Sofia celebrate with a trip to Las Vegas - a weekend of concerts, neon lights, and one last taste of normalcy before senior year.

Then the outbreak begins.

At the NE-YO & AKON concert, the MGM Grand Garden Arena becomes ground zero. The infection spreads faster than the music can stop. Elise, Sofia, and Sofia's younger sister Maddy barely escape the arena with their lives.

The Strip is a war zone. The hotels are death traps. The Convention Center - the city's designated evacuation point - becomes a pressure cooker of desperation, overcrowding, and violence.

Elise has one advantage: she's a swimmer.

She knows how to hold her breath. How to stay calm under pressure. How to move through water silently. How to endure pain and keep going.

But surviving the apocalypse isn't a race. It's an endurance event. And the finish line keeps moving.

With a small group of survivors - teammates, rivals, strangers - Elise must lead them through a broken city toward the mountains. Toward safety. Toward hope.
