At Blockbusty, things don't go wrong-they go out of order. Jess works the counter of a video store where transactions complete before they happen, receipts describe events that haven't been authorized yet, and every interaction seems to arrive slightly after it already occurred. The store operates like a bureaucracy where causality is optional and paperwork always wins. Her coworkers have adapted in their own ways. Cliff treats receipts as emotionally volatile legal documents. Ricky writes records that update themselves. Derek manages VHS tapes that reorganize based on unexplained internal logic. And Leon speaks in systems terminology no one remembers installing. Over the course of a single shift, the store doesn't descend into chaos-it continues functioning exactly as designed by a system no one can fully identify, where corrections create more errors, and finishing a task often happens before starting it becomes relevant. Jess just tries to get through the day in a place where even time feels like it needs approval. A surreal workplace comedy about procedural collapse, retail logic, and a store that may be running correctly-just not in the same order as reality.
