It was easy, it was so easy. An idea, mine, a mission, to help him, to save him, to find the man he's been hunting for twenty years, find him and earn his trust, find him and kill him.
Infiltrate a pirate ship. His ship. Suicidal, obviously. And stupid and terrifying and wrong. Wrong because I hated them, all of them, these criminals who aren't men. Wrong because they have a story, all of them, these criminals who are more human than the rest of us.
They're free, that draws me in, I'm already free, though.
And then there's him, their captain, the one I was meant to find and kill, who is the worst and the best of them all at once, who fascinates me, who terrifies me, who breaks my world apart and rebuilds it over and over and over again.
I don't know why. Why he does it, why I let him, why I betray my brother when my brother is everything and he should already be dead.
I'll be dead soon. Because the crew will destroy me if they realise I lied to them. Because the Council will execute me if they realise I turned against them.
If they realise that I chose him. The captain.
