Deep in Soviet Russia, the Red Room trained widows to become the best spies. They told them they were helping their country, and that they were Russia's greatest gift. Svetlana Smirnov was the trainee who stayed long, but with not enough progress.
But she was one of Dreykov's favorites, which surely had to mean something.
Then December of 1991 happened, and the Winter Soldier program was no longer limited to former Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes.
Russia sought the perfect soldier, the perfect weapon, and there was nothing better than a super soldier widow.
What Svetlana wouldn't expect is her finding family in the man she despised the most. A bond that only surviving the worst could cause.
