The weight of the choice at hand left his heart constricted. To choose violence was to betray what he and Mel had agreed upon. She had been an advocate for peace, the one who leveled out his impulsivity with diplomacy.
But those people -the ones he had tried to protect with treaties and handshakes- had broken her. That girl, Jinx, had nearly erased her from existence.
He had been willing to offer help when the Undercity was just a desperate place in need of a chance. But the cost of that mercy had been paid in Mel's blood.
