High above the villages, where the mountain paths vanish into cold mist and ancient pine forests, sixteen-year-old Ren lives a quiet life beside the roaring fires of his family's swordsmith shop. Isolated from the world below, the Kurogane family has forged blades for generations-swords strong enough to survive wars, monsters, and time itself. Though the villagers depend on their weapons, they keep their distance from the family who still worships a forbidden legend: The Forgotten Swordsman.
At the center of the workshop stands a weathered statue of the mysterious warrior, hidden beneath incense smoke and candlelight. Long ago, the Forgotten Swordsman vanished from history after protecting the land from horrors no one dares speak about anymore. The villages call him cursed. Dangerous. A traitor to mankind. Yet Ren's family continues to honor him in secret, believing the truth died with the ancient centuries.
But something is changing in the mountains.
Travelers disappear on lonely roads. Familiar faces return home... wrong. Smiling too wide. Speaking too carefully. In the darkness roam creatures known as Mimics-monsters that kill humans and steal their appearance to live among the living unnoticed. Fear spreads through the villages below as suspicion turns neighbor against neighbor.
When Ren discovers a hidden sword tied to the Forgotten Swordsman himself, he begins uncovering secrets buried for centuries-truths about the Mimics, his family's bloodline, and the warrior the world tried to erase.
Now, with monsters wearing human skin and war creeping closer to the mountain, Ren must decide whether he will remain a blacksmith's son... or become the next swordsman history will forget.
