Death is an easy way to reveal the truths that otherwise are easily be hidden from you. Phoenix isn't one of your helpless stereotypical she wolfs that appear in a lot of stories, she is powerful, kind and brave. Her surposed mate is dead yet she is able to carry on and sacrifice her own freedom to protect that of a friend.
