LOVING YOU

I stared into his eyes. It had been years since I last saw them-those deep grey eyes that never seemed to fully give anything away.
Everything else about him had changed.
His hair was longer now, slightly unkempt but intentional. A well-shaped beard framed his jaw in a way that made him look older... unfamiliar. Taller too, or maybe it was just the way he carried himself now-like he had grown into space he once struggled to occupy. Even his body had changed; there was a quiet strength in him now, lean muscle beneath his shirt that hadn't been there before.
But his eyes-
His eyes hadn't changed.

They looked back at me with the same intensity they had years ago.

And I didn't like it.

In fact, I dreaded it.

Because in that one look, everything came rushing back-things I thought I had buried, things I thought time had softened. But they were still there, waiting beneath the surface, like they had never left at all.
