I stopped waiting to be rescued a long time ago.

It cost me a childhood, a scar down the side of my face, and the hollowed-out softness where my trust used to live. But I clawed a life out of the wreckage anyway. Twenty-one. Two national judo titles. A city whose lights don't feel like warnings. A family I chose, to replace the one that broke me.

I was whole.

Then Eren Jaeger walked back in.

Six years ago he was everything. Then one night tore us from our axis, and by morning he was just gone; no goodbye, no warning, just silence where his heartbeat used to echo against mine. He has no idea what I became after he left. I still don't know why he left at all.

Now he's back. Older. colder. A stranger with bluish emerald eyes I'd know anywhere, looking right through me as if we were never anything at all.

I thought Eren returning was the disaster.

Then the rest of my past found me.
