Leon's surname is an inheritance from his mother. Big brand, big name. It had to be protected. Putting up walls is the definition of protection. He has to put walls between his brain and his actions, walls between his actions and the public. The electricity in his brain - that's all Leon tries to balance. It's not ideal. He is great at hiding, hiding every spectrum of himself from everyone.
