Marybeth Connor is a smart girl but she threw away her intellect to fit in with her circle of cliche of popular high school friends, like all girls would do to become one with the cool kids. she would purposely participate in troubling behaviour such as getting detention, she had back talked to her teacher for chewing gum in his class, which would have her sent to the principals office.

One afternoon after she is let off of detention, and ditched her clique of friends, she goes to the local arcade with her brother John as he had practically begged her to go.

That triggers a domino effect of events which lead her in the arms and safety of a futuristic, intimidating, Cyborg sent from the future by herself thirty years to the date they met.

And he's a machine that found a way to be an absolute, mind boggling, mystery who could only be explained as different to an emotion-less robot that programmed himself to feel human emotions.
