The Other Malfoy

Dante Septimus Malfoy was Lucius Malfoy's twin brother, but despite the Pure-blood upbringing, he never conformed to the Muggle-hating ideology. On a moonless night in September of 1981, he eventually had a fallout with his brother, leading to him departing from Malfoy Manor with all his possessions.

Dumbledore was quick to find Dante in those times of terror, with Voldemort's reign at an all-time high. The only way to keep a Malfoy under his watch at the time was to offer him a job in the faculty. Having already recruited Severus Snape as the Potions Master, and the Defence Against the Dark Arts position being rumoured to be cursed, it was logical--in the way Dumbledore's logic operates--to offer him the role of Potions assistant professor.

But Snape knows that Dante's rebel roots are old. He knows that Dante was friends with the Marauders. It's hard not to know. And when Harry Potter inevitably arrives at Hogwarts with James's hair and Lily's eyes, his oh-so-faithful assistant is going to find it hard to keep his past memories at bay.
