Amelia Thayer has three rules.
Don't hope for things you can't control. Don't waste time on people who don't fit in your narrative and never - under any circumstances - let people see the parts of you that could be used against you.
She's seventeen. Conveniently sharp. And gifted with a brain that somehow detects what usually people try very hard to hide.
And then November happens. A random Tuesday happens. And the world she has spent seventeen years learning to navigate quietly, stops making sense entirely.
The only person who seems to understand the specific language of what she's walking through is none other than Aiden Langston. Which is inconvenient because she doesn't trust him. Which is more inconvenient because somewhere between a balcony in November last year and the school hallway this year, he became the first guy she ever felt safe with.
She has no idea yet that safe is relative.
