Everybody loves Kaydence Brooks until he gets too loud, too emotional, too annoying, too much.

Kaydence is the funny kid in a loud chaotic family that never stops moving always joking, always talking, always smiling before anybody can notice when something's actually wrong. At home, his dads think he's just dramatic. At school, people laugh with him just enough to hide when they laughing at him too. And somewhere between family chaos, secret smoking, slipping grades, and a girlfriend his parents can never find out about, Kaydence is trying his hardest not to fall apart in front of everybody watching him.

Then Dejuan transfers in.

Calm where Kaydence is chaotic, quiet where Kaydence fills every silence, Dejuan somehow sees through him almost immediately and for the first time in a long time, being around somebody doesn't feel exhausting. It feels easy. Dangerous... but easy.

Now caught between who people think he is and who he might actually become, Kaydence is about to learn that growing up isn't just messy it can change everything you thought you knew about yourself.
