For almost two decades, the kingdoms of Elphar and Varencia had hated each other.
Not openly at first.
It had started with political disagreements in the early 1980s-trade routes, borders, military control, royal influence. But greed turned into rivalry, and rivalry turned into bloodshed. Soldiers died at the borders. Nobles spread rumors. Royal families learned to smile at public events while secretly praying for the downfall of the other kingdom.
And at the center of that hatred...
