Twenty-five-year-old Journey Walters never planned on moving back home.

After graduating college and failing to find the life she thought she was supposed to have, Journey returns to her small Alabama hometown feeling stuck, heartbroken, and quietly ashamed that all her "safe choices" still led her right back where she started. Taking a job as a secretary at one of the town's only law firms, she tries convincing herself that being back home is only temporary.

Then she runs into Horace "Ace" Conner.

Ace is the kind of man Journey never noticed in high school-the quiet blue-collar boy who kept to himself and never planned on leaving town. Now twenty-seven, Ace works long shifts at a nearby plant, helps hold his family together, and spends most of his time trying to keep his reckless younger cousin Malik out of trouble.

One late-night reunion at a hometown party changes everything.

What starts as playful flirting and undeniable attraction quickly grows into something deeper as Journey discovers there's far more to Ace than his rough hands, smooth voice, and dangerous smile. But with Malik's growing legal trouble pulling Journey and Ace even closer together through her law firm job, old heartbreaks, family expectations, and fears about settling threaten to ruin the fragile connection forming between them.

Because falling for Ace Conner means Journey might have to confront the one thing she's avoided her entire life:
