The Devil and the Sinner

"What I wanna know, is who the hell she is," Angel asked after putting the phone back to his ear. "And why the fuck ya keep callin' her 'your highness'."

I watch him pause for a moment, eyes flickering over to me before he focused back on the phone.

"It ain't... like a kink thing you two got goin' on, right?" He asked, while I continued to plan his murder. "Is she your fuckin' dominatrix?"

"Dear, Satan, no," I hear Gerald say, practically shuddering at the thought.

Please.

He'd be lucky if I thought of him like that.

"Give her back the phone, please," Gerald told Angel, and after a moment of grumbling, the sinner listened.

As soon as I had the phone to my ear: "What are you going to do with him?"

"I'm letting him go, I don't want his soul-"

"Oh, thank fuckin' god-"

I just shot him a glare.

"Your highness, you can't give him up," Gerald said through the phone, before elaborating. "You can't dissolve the contract, he has to stay in the castle with you."

I pause, brows furrowing. "Why not?"

"Because contracts- specifically any ones linked to you- are tied directly to Hell. Because you are directly linked to Hell. You destroy that contract, it would damage the systems of Hell."

I feel my shoulders drop as I look up at Angel, who I could tell heard every word by the look on his face.

"Your highness, his soul is yours, permanently," Gerald continued. "Your souls are linked together now, even your powers can't change that."

"...Why does he have to live with me, though?" I ask, confused on that part.

"Because his soul may tear and he might manifest abilities he shouldn't- and you need to be there to keep him in check," Gerald responded. "We'll discuss this further in the castle."

He stared at me as I hung up the phone, an unsettled look on his face.

"...Holy shit," he whispered, and I could see the moment it clicked in his eyes.

"You're the fuckin' Devil."
