In 1983 Los Angeles, Marjorie "Jo" Brown lives a quiet double life.

By day, she works exhausting shifts as a nurse in one of California's busiest burn centers, spending her hours beneath fluorescent hospital lights helping patients survive unbearable pain. By night, she disappears into a small upscale restaurant on Sunset Boulevard, singing original songs with an old guitar to crowds too distracted to really listen.

Until one night, someone finally does.

After one of her performances, Jo shares a brief conversation with Michael Jackson - already becoming one of the biggest stars in the world after the explosive success of Thriller. Soft-spoken, shy, and hidden beneath hats and dark glasses, Michael leaves more of an impression on Jo than she wants to admit.

But it's only one night.

One conversation.

And after he disappears back into his world of fame, flashing cameras, and sold-out arenas, Jo never expects to see him again.

For nearly a year, she doesn't.

Then in 1984, everything changes.
