Before the Normandy. Before the Reapers. Before Commander Shepard became humanity's last hope, there were the facilities. Cold metal halls. Screaming test subjects. Needles. Experiments. Pain twisted into training until children became weapons too dangerous to control.
Jack survived it through rage.
Shadow survived it through silence.
Raised inside the same Cerberus nightmare, the two learned quickly that weakness was punished and attachment was fatal. They escaped together beneath blood-red alarms and burning corridors, but freedom did not save them. It only split them apart.
Jack vanished into violence and prison cells.
Shadow disappeared into the stars.
The Apex Predators took him in soon after - mercenaries feared across the Frontier and beyond. Killers. Professionals. Survivors. Fighting alongside Alliance operations when credits or survival demanded it, Shadow buried his past beneath contracts, gunfire, and a reputation that made hardened soldiers uneasy.
Then he met Jane Shepard.
A commander already carrying the weight of humanity on her shoulders. Sharp-eyed. Unbreakable. The kind of woman who looked straight through the monster Cerberus made and still saw something human underneath.
But the past does not stay buried forever.
Not when Cerberus still exists.
Not when Jack is still alive.
And especially not when the galaxy itself is beginning to die.
Because some experiments never truly end.
And some monsters only become more dangerous when they finally have something worth fighting for.
