Valentina was told she was crazy all her life. As a child she met a man who fell from the sky. But the adults told her that she had made him up to help deal with the grief and trauma of losing her family at such a young age.
By the time she was sixteen, she wasn't just on a path of self destruction, she was leading the parade. Between the pills, and drinking and the cutting, she wasn't sure which would get her first. Until the day that everything changed.
Wasted.
Stealing a car.
Driving off a bridge.
Plunging down into freezing water.
Finally everything was going to end. All her pain and suffering. She closed her eyes and welcomed the sweet embrace of death. But something happened.
Hands, warm and strong.
Pulling her from the car.
Swimming through the cold water, fighting the strong current.
Reaching land, she coughed up all the water she had swallowed. Once she regained her breath, she turned on the person who dared to ruin her plan, only to be met with a pair of green eyes, like grass on a sunny spring day. He pulled her into his arms, wrapping them tightly around her.
"Please don't ever do something like that again," he whispered against her hair.
Then he was gone.
All that remained of him was the burning shame Valentina felt blazing in her chest.
Now she is all grown up and is determined to find her angel, no matter the cost. But she soon finds herself in a world she no longer recognizes. Will finding this angel heal a part of her that for so long has been broken? What happens when choosing her happiness might also doom the planet?
