Edward Perlson's job isn't the most glamorous or even the best-paying one, but it does have its fair share of perks. Namely, it gets him up close and personal with some of the biggest stars in the world, or at least big names from TV. He's a production assistant. Simply put, he does all the grunt work that needs to be done. Everything from doing coffee runs, to file organization, to walking the actors to and from set. If a job needs to be done, he's the man to do it. Edward is a stickler for the rules. He apologizes even after the smallest of mistakes, he doesn't speak unless he's spoken to, he never stands too close to cast members. That last one is especially important. Interacting with the stars is crossing a line that could blacklist him from the industry. Killing his career before it even begins. So, it's a huge surprise to him when Penelope Susanstrom, the most prolific actress of the past several years, begins talking to him one day on set. At first, he humours her, but then becomes paranoid when she speaks to him on a regular basis. She assures him that he's done nothing wrong, even asking him out on one occasion. From there, Edward's life takes a dramatic turn. One that brings him closer to the big names of the silver screen than ever before.

After fleeing her abusive ex in the middle of the night, Chloe Dawson arrives in a small coastal town with nothing but a duffel bag, a crying six-month-old baby, and the last of her savings. She rents a tiny apartment where the walls are paper-thin. Next door lives Sergeant Mason Kane, disciplined, exhausted, emotionally closed off, and currently on leave between military assignments. After years in the army, silence is the only thing that helps him sleep. Then the baby starts crying every night. At first, Mason is irritated. Chloe is terrified of him. Every knock on the door reminds her of the man she escaped.
