The Shef-it

In the shadow of Ancient Egypt's First Dynasty, seventeen-year-old Benerib is chosen for the highest honor a royal weaver can receive: weaving the sacred Shef-it, the burial linen meant to wrap the body of Pharaoh Djer for eternity.

But inside the palace walls, honor and death are often the same thing.

As whispers spread through the royal compound about disappearing servants, drafted retainers, and tombs being prepared beneath the desert sands of Abydos, Benerib realizes the terrifying truth-when a pharaoh dies, others are expected to follow him into the afterlife.

Including her.

Trapped inside a kingdom where priests rule like gods and loyalty is measured in sacrifice, Benerib clings to the only thing that still feels human: Sabef, a young palace worker she has loved in secret for years.

But forbidden love inside the House of Horus is deadly.
