Unlikable

Kehlani believes she is inherently unlikable. At school, she is bullied by her peers because of her dark clothing and withdrawn personality. Her difficult behavior is rooted in a painful childhood; she was raised from an early age by a father who abandoned her, and that abandonment left lasting emotional scars. Fearing she will repeat her father's mistakes, her mother keeps a strict hold on her, which only deepens Kehlani's sense of being controlled and misunderstood. In her desperation for relief, Kehlani begins to self-harm until her mother has her committed. Everything changes when Kehlani insists on seeing her father. Once reunited with him, she is released, moves in with him and his wife, and eventually meets someone who could become a romantic interest.

As for whether Kehlani can become likable, yes - absolutely.
