The other maids had stopped to stare, eyes wide. I put my face in Alcina's neck to hide myself as best as I could. "Oh no, oh no." Alcina chuckled. Fawn, the quiet assistant of the Duke, accompanies him during a trade visit to Castle Dimitrescu. Small, polite, and visibly vulnerable especially with her paralyzed arm she immediately catches the attention of Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters. At first, the daughters treat the girl as little more than entertainment, testing her obedience, patience, and composure. They expect fear, resistance, or defiance but Fawn gives none. Instead, she responds with quiet respect and unwavering politeness, even when frightened. Lady Dimitrescu watches carefully. Beneath the girl's calm demeanor she senses something deeper: trauma, discipline, and a strange fragility that refuses to break. As the Duke's visits continue, Fawn spends more time inside the castle. Slowly, the daughters' curiosity turns into protectiveness, though they would never admit it aloud.

A gothic story set in Castle Dimitrescu about a young girl who travels with a seamstress to a remote castle for work. What starts as a simple stay turns tense and overwhelming as the castle proves to be huge, eerie, and full of things no one talks about. The girl struggles with fear and feeling out of place, and sometimes slips into younger, regressed states when things become too much for her. She's not really understood by anyone there at first. Lady Dimitrescu, the castle's strict and intimidating owner, isn't the type to care for guests-but she notices more than she lets on. Over time, things slowly shift as the castle stops feeling quite as cold, and something like reluctant protection starts to form.
