Sa aking ika-25 na kaarawan, nakatanggap ako ng isang lumang diary na walang nakasulat na pangalan ng may-ari. Ang kakaiba rito? Sulat-kamay ko ang laman nito. Ngunit wala akong maalala na isinulat ko ang mga iyon.
Ang unang pahina ay may babala:
"Huwag mong kakausapin ang lalaking may pulang panyo sa kanang bulsa bukas ng 8:00 AM sa tapat ng coffee shop. Kung hindi, mamamatay siya."
Tinawanan ko lang ito. Akala ko ay prank lang ng mga kaibigan ko.
Kinaumagahan, eksaktong 8:00 AM, bumili ako ng kape. Sa tapat ng tindahan, may isang matangkad at guwapong lalaki na nagmamadali. Nahulog ang kanyang wallet. Nilapitan ko siya para isauli ito. Habang papalapit ako, nanlamig ang buong katawan ko. May pulang panyo sa kanang bulsa ng pantalon niya.
"Miss, salamat," nakangiting sabi niya nang iabot ko ang wallet.
Bago pa ako makasagot, isang nawalan ng preno na truck ang sumalungat sa pwesto namin. Nahila niya ako pabalik sa bangketa, ngunit siya ang tuluyang nahagip. Namatay siya sa harap ko.
